Winter Week 4 First the Worst
Leaders, I am not going to sugarcoat this one. This week’s discussion will be a tricky one that carries a lot of weight and emotion and probably will make a lot of us a bit nervous. We will be talking about divorce and what Jesus said about it in Mark 10. As a church we are committed to teach the word of God, even when it comes to the hard issues that bring up a lot of emotion. Therefore, skipping over hard parts is not an option, so instead we are going to dive right in and wrestle through the stance and the implications. I realize some of you have been through a divorce yourself and that you may have people in your group who have also been divorced. What I am asking of all of us as leaders is to stay true to what the Bible says and talk through that while at the same time we do not lose sight of grace and forgiveness and the fact that every situation is not the same even though the results are. All that to say, Jesus took a clear stance against divorce–yes, reasons are given in Scripture that allow for divorce–and we need to represent what the Bible teaches.
There are people around us today who could really use some help or support regarding divorce. That is where we as groups and the church have a huge opportunity to bring it up, so this week we can talk through it and maybe even provide resources and find ways to help if that is the right thing for the situation. Above all else, please be praying for your conversations this week and ask the Spirit in you to guide every word spoken in the group and to give you wisdom to know what to say and how to respond.
Have a great week, Here are your resources.
