Community Group Questions
Week 6 - May 5, 2024
Question for the Season
What are your spiritual gifts? How have you seen God use those in the past? How are you using them now? When you are using those gifts what does it do for you and your relationship with God?
Main Verses for the Week
James 1:19 - quick to listen and slow to speak
Day 1 - Scripture Reading and Study / Seeking Guidance
Read James 1:19.
What did James mean by being “quick to listen, slow to speak”? How do we do that?
What are the attributes that make someone a good listener?
Day 2 - Space for Reflection and Prayer
How are you doing with being quick to listen to God in your relationship with Him? What has God been communicating to you lately?
How do you assess if you are a good listener in your relationships with people?
Day 3 - Time for Repentance
Read Proverbs 18:13.
How do you listen or respond when in conversations that you do not agree with or understand?
Stephen Covey famously said, “Most people do not listen with the intent to understand; they listen with the intent to reply.” When have you done that–to men or to God–and what has been the outcome?
In light of the verse and quote above, what is the Holy Spirit revealing to you regarding your conversation/communication with God and others?
Day 4 - Tangible Hope / Generosity / Serve
Is there someone to whom the Holy Spirit is prompting you to “just” listen–and not be thinking of something you might say or do? Will you give grace and just be there for him/her?
Think of a person who has encouraged you by truly listening to you. Make an effort to reach out and thank them for their empathy and patience, and affirm their good example of “listening.” Tell them face-to-face or by writing a short note, card, or text.
Day 5 - Worship / Celebrate / Encourage
An exercise for your Community Group: Having “heard” during this week’s discussion how others in your group are doing in this area, how will you celebrate and encourage each other?
Thank God that He is the One who always listens, always cares, and is always available.
