Winter Week 3 Get Growing

Hey, leaders! Right up front I want to tell you that this week’s discussion is not going to be easy and is going to ruffle some people’s feathers. We are at the point in 1 Peter that has us talking about submitting to governing authorities, and, in case you haven’t heard, apparently people have some strong feelings about governing authorities. Then, on top of that, this week’s passage drives home the call to suffer for Christ. In the questions we will ask people to look at their lives and see (1) if Christ is more to them as someone they try to use to better their own lives and have his help to accomplish their goals or (2) if they truly strive to submit their lives to his plans and his goals. Obviously, this is a heavy time that has probably really frustrated some people. I want to remind you as leaders, however, that growth does not come from comfort and ease but from the stretching and sometimes painful times. So, embrace this and know that on the other side is where growth resides. As one of my favorite songs says, “Nobody wins afraid of losing, And the hard roads are the ones worth choosing. Someday we'll look back and smile, And know it was worth every mile.” Thanks for all you do.
